Its unique interface, live alerts, support for multiple languages, plus other interactive elements, means Checker ensures you're in control and keeps you one step ahead of fake news. ** V1.1.24.1 release notes** September 16, 2024 Catalogue length: 5739 fact checks and scam warnings, 9427 known phrases ** V1.1.24.0 release notes** September 11, 2024 Catalogue length: 5660 fact checks and scam warnings, 9333 known phrases ** V1.1.23.0 release notes** September 5, 2024 Catalogue length: 5558 fact checks and scam warnings, 9196 known phrases ** V1.1.22.0 release notes** August 30, 2024 Catalogue length: 5378 fact checks and scam warnings, 8954 known phrases ** V1.1.21.0 release notes** August 24, 2024 This week we launch a major new feature - fact check search. The catalogue of user-accessible fact checks is now greatly expanded and allows users to search for fact checks out of a catalogue of thousands from more than a dozen highly-rated sources. Better yet, fact checks viewed in browser sessions now saved to your extension history. So even if you didn't visit a fact check through the interface, it'll be there in Checker for you if you want to revisit it later. Fact checks are more accessible than ever before, while the catalogue of live alerts continues to grow by approximately 150 fact checks and scam warnings every week. Catalogue length: 5075 fact checks and scam warnings, 8499 known phrases ** V1.1.20.0 release notes** August 20, 2024 Catalogue length: 4944 fact checks and scam warnings, 8283 known phrases ** V1.1.19.0 release notes** August 14, 2024 Catalogue length: 4747 fact checks and scam warnings, 7989 known phrases ** V1.1.18.0 release notes** August 7, 2024 Catalogue length: 4490 fact checks and scam warnings, 7607 known phrases ** V1.1.17.0 release notes** July 31, 2024 Catalogue length: 4404 fact checks and scam warnings, 7408 known phrases ** V1.1.16.0 release notes** July 24, 2024 This week Flags have been expanded to be inclusive of our non-English speaking users, with sources and think tanks from India and Pakistan added to the catalogue. There is now approximately 200 sources currently flagged by the extension as having biases or records that may be of interest to users. The translation function has also been expanded to include the most common languages in India, Pakistan and Egypt. Catalogue length: 4327 fact checks and scam warnings, 7272 known phrases ** V1.1.15.0 release notes** July 18, 2024 This week, we've continued to expand the Flags feature to include more websites and now alert users to potential biases from significant sources. Media frequently report on the findings of "think tanks," which can carry substantial influence. These organizations often use terms like "Institute," "Institution," "Center," "Centre," "Council," and "Forum," which may obscure their biases. Understanding the funding sources, political affiliations, and historical biases of these organizations is crucial to comprehending the perspectives their findings present. In Update 1.1.15.0 the list of websites and organisations currently flagged for further context is approximately 220, which includes websites and think tanks from the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Catalogue length: 4246 fact checks and scam warnings, 7134 known phrases ** V1.1.14.0 release notes** July 12, 2024 This week we launch a significant new feature, "Flags". Flags are small notifications that appear on Google, Facebook and X next to sources identified as having historic biases, are known for being misleading or sensationalist, or which are satirical but are often confused for real news sources. Understanding an outlet's history and biases is important for identifying whether the information it is presenting is potentially skewed, exaggerated or incomplete. At launch, there are approximately 140 popular sources in the catalogue of sites which are flagged. These include both left- and right-wing publications, as well as those known for spreading conspiracies, hoaxes and myths. The appearance of the icon next to a source does not mean it is inherently untrustworthy or inaccurate, but it may help a user understand the perspectives or potential biases contained or likely to be contained within an article. "Flags" is just the latest of many updates and expansions expected for Checker over the coming months. Catalogue length: 4181 fact checks and scam warnings, 7040 known phrases ** V1.1.13.0 release notes** July 04, 2024 Catalogue length: 4082 fact checks and scam warnings, 6893 known phrases ** V1.1.12.0 release notes** June 22, 2024 After a few weeks away, Checker is back and better than ever - and with a major new feature. The extension can now detect images likely to be spreading misinformation, disinformation and scams. Images, specifically memes and post screenshots, are a major vehicle for the spread of misinformation. This new feature is another step towards a more effective way of answering it.
